SENEGAL – GTA PROJECT SUPPORT

Ambrey was contracted to deliver five Field Support Vessels (FSVs) and Fishing Liaison Officers (FLOs) in support of the subsea construction and installation of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA)
subsea pipeline and FPSO pilling.

CHALLENGE

The location of the pipeline presented numerous fishing related hazards, including floating nets from artisanal fishermen, commercial trawling fleets and floating debris.

These hazards had the potential to foul the thrusters of both construction vessels and the support fleet which would have the potential to cause significant downtime and delays to the project timeline as well as damage to subsea infrastructure.

SOLUTION

Ambrey wrote bespoke and proactive Standard Operating Procedures to address the potential hazards and deployed five FSVs within the field to safeguard the identified vulnerable areas.

In addition to the FSVs, we recruited and trained a total of eighteen FLOs from both Senegal and Mauritania and two FLOs were deployed on the FSVs at any given time to proactively communicate, liaise with and educate the fishing fleets on the ongoing construction efforts. Successful liaison and positive relationship building with the fishing fleets (both commercial and artisanal).

OUTCOME

Successful liaison and positive relationship building with the
fishing fleets (both commercial and artisanal).

  • Zero construction vessel net entanglements.
  • Zero subsea infrastructure damage.
