MARLIN LUANDA

On January 26, 2024 – the fuel tanker MARLIN LUANDA was struck by an anti-ship missile fired by Houthi forces while transiting the Gulf of Aden and carrying a cargo of naphtha. The strike caused a fire in one of the ship’s starboard cargo tanks. The Master, crew, and Ambrey security team battled to contain the fire through the night with timely assistance from the American and French Navy.

As dawn reached the ship, the Indian Navy came on board to assist. With these additional personnel and crucial extra equipment, the fire was extinguished. In the face of the unthinkable, the crew and Ambrey team demonstrated exceptional bravery and a deep sense of duty despite the dangers. They worked tirelessly to fight the fires onboard for over 19 hours, helping ensure the safety and protection of one another and demonstrating remarkable composure and resilience under extreme pressure and averting a major environmental disaster.

Their actions were rightfully recognised by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), with the 2024 IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea, a testament to the profound impact of all their efforts on that fateful day. This incident was an inspiring example for all of us at Ambrey and within the broader maritime community.

To Dinesh Gurung and Amarjeet Singh, I extend our deepest gratitude and admiration for your dedication, bravery, and professionalism. You embody the very best of our values, and we are immensely proud to have you as part of our team.
