Senior Maritime Operations Officer

The Role

This position is for Senior Maritime Operations Officer (SMOO) in the Global Operations Centre (GOC) based in Southampton, the post will report to our Associate Director of Digital Operations. The SMOO’s primary responsibilities will be showcasing the GOC to our clients and identifying where our services can support them. Leading a team of Maritime Operations Officers to provide 24/7 digital and physical security solutions and risk management including but not limited to, voyage risk assessments, incident response, ship security alert system response and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Being the face of the GOC for our clients; leading on client audits and visits to identify where the GOC can support their requirements.
  • Leading and developing a team of ex seafarers and ensuring their 24/7 rotation is fulfilled.
  • Driving operational efficiencies and continual improvement.
  • Being part of the incident management team (IMT) responding to maritime incidents.
  • Introducing new service lines by developing SOP’s, implementing new processes, and training the team.
  • Work with our inhouse software developers to review and drive automation of service delivery
  • Proven experience managing a large team, including overseeing daily operations, performance management, and team development.

Qualifications and skills

  • Significant maritime experience at a senior officer level having sailed on a variety of vessels.
  • Previous shore experience as a Marine Superintendent, DPA, CSO is a strong advantage.
  • At least 5 years previous experience managing a team.
  • Strong organisational skills for creating and maintaining a shift rota, ensuring adequate coverage, and managing schedule conflicts.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members across different shifts and handle operational challenges.
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Office tools, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A commercially orientated leader.
  • Accustomed to working efficiently under pressure in challenging situations with the ability to provide clear direction.
  • Professional written and spoken English-language proficiency.

Terms and conditions

  • Salary: commensurate with experience
  • Annual Leave: 25 days per annum plus public holidays
  • Working hours: 08:30am to 17:30pm Monday to Friday
  • Out of hours working will be required from time to time (evenings & weekends)
  • Job type: Full-time, permanent
