Junior Commercial Manager

The Role
This position based in our Southampton office is for a full-time Junior Commercial Manager for Ambrey’s West Africa Division. The Junior Commercial Manager will work with the company West Africa Commercial team and have responsibility for assisting in all aspects of maritime transits. The post will report to the Associate Director, WAF.
Responsibilities
- Responsible to be the face of Ambrey International as an SME to our clients and own commercial management of the clients’ tasks day to day.
- Advise and guide clients on Anti-Piracy measures in line with host nation laws and jurisdiction, providing subject matter expert advice with integrity.
- Own the end to end delivery process to our clients from request to invoice and debt collection including proactive analysis, delivering maximum profitability whilst ensuring successful task delivery.
- Assist the team by producing leads, proposals and managing clients whilst looking for opportunities to grow the business.
- Assist the team and work as a member of a cohesive team, accepting extra duties as they arise as well as being the team out of hours contact on a 24/7 basis.
- Assist the team by producing weekly and monthly reports and to develop annual client strategy and plans based on working day to day knowledge of the clients.
- Assist in proactively managing the WAF commercial mailbox.
- Clear understanding of client and supplier responsibilities.
- Establish and maintain a thorough understanding of all of the Commercial teams’ clients’ needs and requirements.
- Be involved in the planning and management of maritime transits.
- Assist in the coordination of all transits under the direction of the Commercial Managers.
- Ability to network and establish relationships with clients and organisations.
- Have a thorough understanding of the cost and pricing model for a transit so as to ensure the maximisation of profit on every transit.
- Ensure compliance and adherence to timelines with all industry codes, client KPIs, schedules, internal procedures and updates.
- Ability to proactively support Commercial Coordinators delivering on the administrative requirement for each transit to include, but not limited to:
▪ Quotations
▪ Flag State Approvals
▪ Guardcon Contracts and Annex’s
▪ Orders
▪ Vessel tracking and research
▪ Client research
- Undertake any other task which the Commercial Management team deems reasonable
from a management perspective.
Qualifications and skills
The ideal candidate should be a self-starter who is excited about the opportunity and should have/be
- 6+ months previous relevant experience in an office-based management role.
- Demonstrate understanding of security risk management, and practical experience of managing both clients and commercial business within complex business environment.
- An outstanding focus on client relationship management and the ability to influence effectively.
- Professional, thorough and detail orientated with strong interpersonal skills – building trust and rapport.
- A conceptual thinker who is not afraid to be “hands on” and practical.
- High attention to detail and prioritisation whilst adapting to changing demands and ambiguous situations.
- High levels of initiative and self-motivation.
- Have good judgement and decision-making skills, with an understanding of the impact on stakeholders.
- Strong multi-tasking skills, with the ability to coordinate activities, facilitate unit goals and manage resource requirements.
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills, with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent IT skills covering the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong administration skills, with the ability to assist in numerous projects simultaneously while meeting exacting deadlines.
- Ability to work under pressure during emergency situations.
- Previous experience within the maritime services sector in a commercial or operational management role.
- Experience of using a CRM system, desirable.
Terms and conditions
- Salary: Commensurate with experience.
- Annual Leave: 25 days per annum plus public holidays
- Working hours: Your normal hours of work will either be one of the following working patterns as agreed within your team 8:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 17:30 p.m. or 9:00 a.m. to 18:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. (Weeknight duties are required and
weekend cover)
