Group Finance Director

The Role
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Group Finance Director to oversee all financial operations. This role is pivotal in driving financial performance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making. Subject to the candidate, the position can be based in either Hereford or Southampton with hybrid working options available. This role will report into the Chief Executive Officer.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement financial strategies that align with Ambrey’s business objectives, providing financial insights to support corporate decision-making.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, produce regular financial forecasts, and monitor performance against budgets to identify areas for improvement.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Manage cash flow to ensure the company maintains a healthy financial position.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, audit requirements, and internal controls, while mitigating financial risks through proactive measures.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors, banks, and regulatory authorities.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and accuracy.
- Take ownership and prepare time-critical month-end accounts (P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow) and WIP.
- Oversee the weekly/monthly group cash flow forecast.
- Develop and maintain necessary controls, regulatory compliance issues including ISO compliance, policies, and procedures to ensure effective and efficient financial management within the company.
- Take ownership and review the monthly payroll.
- Ensure all statutory deadlines are met, including the annual audit for the group, corporation tax, VAT, etc., and liaise with external advisers.
- Maintain daily communication with the CEO and senior leadership, frequently providing project-based feasibility financials, forecasts, and financial modelling.
- Conduct in-depth P&L analysis and review, highlighting opportunities where possible.
- Oversee the legacy system integration to a preferred operating system, requiring significant time and previous experience with migrations and integrations.
- Work alongside the accounting team to ensure month-end reporting is adequate for relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor debt levels and report to Commercial Managers and ELT.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and year-end reconciliations.
- Be responsible for the annual budgeting.
- Oversee journal preparation and posting.
- Oversee the maintenance of FAR and annual depreciation.
- Any further responsibilities as may be required.
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) is essential.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in a senior finance role, preferably within the maritime services, security, or logistics industries.
- Strong analytical, strategic planning, and leadership skills. Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
- Thorough understanding of UK accounting standards, tax regulations, and corporate finance principles.
- Results-oriented, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Terms and conditions
- Salary: commensurate with experience
- Annual Leave: 25 days per annum plus public holidays
- Working hours: 08:30am to 17:30pm Monday to Friday
- Job type: Full-time, permanent
- Place of work: Hereford or Southampton, with hybrid working options available. National and international travel will be required.
